Focus.

If you believe the grass is always greener on the other side, you’ll never be happy or satisfied. I believe we can always be happy, no matter what we’re up against. Satisfied though? Is it okay to be satisfied?

I believe we should, fairly constantly, be striving for better. Of course, celebrate your accomplishments and be proud. Shoot, even be satisfied for a moment. But don’t let that satisfaction turn into complacency. What is satisfying today won’t be satisfying next year.

I think of Coach Jimmy V here, “…I like to remember, where I was, where I am, and where I’d like to be. If where I am is where I want to be, it’s as far as I’ll go.”

So, where do you want to go? What do you want to accomplish? What are you striving for? We all have to handle the “basics” every day. But beyond doing what you feel you have to do, what are you spending your time and mental energy on?

If there is something you want to be better at, or something you want to accomplish, yet you aren’t practicing it or aren’t working on it…what results do you expect? Don’t let time pass you by. Hone your focus and keep at the things that are important to you.

And when you feel lost or overwhelmed, take a few moments and stare at the wall. Evaluation and self-reflection can be powerful if you let it.
